Bars & Nightclubs
As you'll soon notice, El Barrio (the Old Quarter) is quiet for a good reason during the day... it's resting for a sleepless night. As the sun sets, dozens of pubs set their chairs out into the narrow lanes and ready their jugs of sangria. Whether you're 20-, 30- or 70-years-old, a leisurely evening drink under the starry skies in the cooling night air is an exercise in pleasure. The atmosphere is utterly relaxing and intoxicatingly palpable.
For those with who don't hear their pillow calling, countless bars and discos start opening their doors in El Barrio around 11pm. It's at this point that the soothing night air starts to turn electric, with an armada of party goers flooding into music filled streets. There are so many different options... wade into a massive three-floored nightclub packed with Spaniards seething to locals beats or hop into a cosy club pumping out house, hip hop and drum and base. A great place with a local spirit is Tasca El Coscorrón - look for the hobbit sized door with the pillow atop, an obvious improvement over the ‘watch your head’ sign. Don’t leave without trying a mojito (a chilly concoction of mint leaves, rum, sugar, and lemon).
Around 4am, a slow and steady migration occurs towards El Puerto (the port). Here, large modern clubs pump out the dance music until 6am.
